About
I was born in Honolulu Hawaii, I’m a triple Cancer- I have royal Indian chief blood from my great great grandmother, and i’m from an enchanted, artistic bloodline, they named Pickering island after my relatives. my grandmother had 14 siblings, all super talented and artistic. Its in my bloodline.
I have a double Major in photography and graphic design.
I meticulously plan my big shoots, so I save time and energy.
I hate long dragged out shoots…unorganized shoots, with staff and models. dragging there ass!……..
a late mua/hair, destroys the timing. ……….It’s important to start early, and be on time.
I am very detailed. It’s like an orchestra, it has to be on time and flow, like a song.
1 hour of preparation is worth 3 hours of execution.
Most my large shoots are charity work…….they were to teach the community about culture and make Art.
Most artist have an eye, and a unique style. its hard not to see them as individual artist, they act like every photographer is the same.
Training
Having an artistic eye is different than having 100k in equipment, and no talent.
Equipment is 0 hertz… creativity starts at 350 hertz.
you have to have the it factor, and the fundamentals, and that spark that resonates the photo to life. You're the creator! How can you just press a button! You have to create a picture, then make it BIG!..not little… BIG!! UNIQUE!! Significant………
I use motion and melody in my pictures, besides, contrast , repetition, alignment and proximity.
duality, 3rds, positive and negative space… the 12 graphic design structures- Golden ratio
Color theory
Concepts of art history, in a photo including emotion.
eye contact, expression and feelings.
lighting and conjunct motion, like in paintings.
representation of historical events- culture , symbolism
then polarity and resonance.
capturing the best version of your spirit.
Making the model feel comfortable, it’s important, to not waist their time, and make it a enjoyable experience.
I usually delegate, giving the MUA/HAIR stylist more freedom
I usually direct the models shooting, it’s faster and easier.
I AM ALWAY ON TIME. and Always confirm at least 3 times… ………
For all my. shoots.. I start shooting a 9am , so MUA/HAIR Must be here at. 6 am, sharp…….2 hours for first set of models…then the other flow in…Then I shoot, -9AM TOO 3PM..Not a second longer.
No long lunches or dragged out, distractions……I have food, so they can eat throughout the.day , I couldn’t imagine going out to lunch, becouse it would break the flow, and frequency.
When you stop and drag your ass, the frequency goes down. Besides, no body wants to wait around,. To be organized with dozens of models, it’s important, to not too, diddle daddle and get off track of the time schedule. Turn my phone off, its a distraction, and going away for lunch would screw that up, there lots of food, usually. nothing like spaghetti or bbq ribs, but.. usually finger, food and sandwiches, food thats not messy. Sushi, shrimp tempura, but the staff often would bring food too.
I use dance instructors for several time pieces, in my shoots.Jazz, swing, tango, Lindy hop, ex..
Dance is very important to community and culture.
Most projects include lots of preparation and a lot of models.
